He sat still in the car, avoiding their eyes. Someone had let him down before. He didn’t know what a home was. He had always lived outside. A soft bed was waiting, but he chose the hard floor. He had never known what it meant to feel safe, and he wasn’t sure if he ever would.

Afraid Of Every Touch

When a hand reached for him, he shrank away. He had learned that touch could hurt. The house was unfamiliar, filled with things he didn’t understand. Warmth surrounded him, but he couldn’t trust it. He kept his distance, watching, waiting. He had survived on his own. He didn’t know if he could survive being cared for.

Realizing He Was Finally Safe

One day, he moved closer. He pressed his head beneath a hand. It was a small action, but it meant everything. He wanted comfort but didn’t know how to ask for it. The hand moved, scratching his head. He didn’t pull away. He let it happen. For the first time, he felt like he belonged.

Learning What It Means To Play

He started to run. He would jump forward, stop, and wait. If someone moved, he would dash away, only to return seconds later. He was figuring out the game, though the rules were new to him. Outside, he spun in circles, kicking up dirt and grass. He had never played before, but now he couldn’t stop.

Finding A Friend In His New Home

A small dog lived there too. She curled up beside him every night. He let her. He wasn’t used to sharing space, but he didn’t mind. She saw him as warmth, and he didn’t pull away. He had found a home. Trust no longer felt impossible. He was safe, and he was loved.

A Future Full Of Love

Bringing him home had been the right choice. He had come from nothing but had found everything. Now, he leaned into hands that reached for him. He ran through the yard without fear. He had a friend who never left his side. His past was behind him. He was no longer scared. He was finally home.
