When Bunny, a blind Collie‑mix, was abandoned in rural Texas due to a congenital condition called Collie Eye Anomaly, her future looked bleak. Left in a shelter with virtually no hope of adoption, she was destined to fade quietly into the background. But just one transformative decision—Randi choosing Bunny—turned a life of loneliness into a soul-stirring tale of joy, resilience, and boundless love

Shortly after Randi adopted Bunny on July 3, 2025, the shy pup experienced the warmth of human affection for the first time—in cuddles, quiet evenings, and gentle walks. One of their earliest outings took them to the ocean. It was there that Bunny revealed a hidden gift: despite her blindness, she navigated the surf to retrieve floating balls. Utilizing her sharp senses—wind direction, ground textures, scents, and the movement of water—she mapped the world around her, often outperforming sighted dogs

Randi marvels, “She can map something out and remember it after just a couple rounds,” echoing Bunny’s remarkable intelligence

Bunny’s love for water fetch sessions grew quickly into a highlight of her week. Randi explains that Bunny relishes the ocean because her acute senses give her an edge over other dogs not reliant on sight

Watching Bunny charge into the waves, her nose hunting each splash and bounce, is more than just heartwarming, it’s a testament to joy flourishing in unexpected forms.

Their adventures extend beyond sandy beaches. Bunny adores bike rides, nestled comfortably in a basket where she senses the world at just the right pace. Randi contrasts biking with car rides: “Being blind makes sticking her head out the car window super scary, but riding the bike is the perfect speed to smell and listen to things”

These outings highlight Bunny’s zest for life and her ability to embrace the world on her own terms.

She swims, runs, explores, and socializes with other dogs—all while soaking in every sensation around her

When people meet Bunny, they are astounded by her abilities—many find it hard to believe she is blind, her confidence radiates beyond what sight alone could offer.

In every splash and breath, Bunny proves that love and care can awaken extraordinary potential. From a lonely shelter in Texas to triumphant days by the water, her story is a compelling reminder: with kindness, courage, and unwavering resilience, every creature can rise above perceived limitations and shine with their own unique brilliance.
