In a touching new chapter for their family, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have adopted a rescue dog named Dudley—just weeks after saying goodbye to their beloved French bulldog, Penny. The couple, known for their deep love of animals, made the announcement on National Puppy Day March 23rd, 2025 with a heartfelt video that introduced Dudley to their fans. This isn’t just a celebrity pet update—it’s a story of loss, resilience, and second chances because you see, Dudley isn’t an ordinary shelter dog, he was rescued from the LA wildfires and is a plucky survivor.

Dudley’s story began in the middle of chaos. He was rescued by the Wags & Walks animal rescue organization after being found during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025. The young pup was severely ill with pneumonia and spent nearly two weeks receiving emergency medical care. His survival was uncertain, but his will to live never faltered.

The rescue team worked tirelessly to nurse him back to health. And when Chrissy and John heard about him through their connection with the shelter, they knew they had to meet him.

Chrissy and John visited Dudley while he was still recovering. Though he was frail, they were immediately drawn to his gentle spirit. According to Wags & Walks founder Lesley Brog, the couple fell in love with him on the spot.

“They met Dudley during one of his early recovery days,” said Brog. “He was still weak, but they saw his sweetness and knew he was meant to be part of their family.”

The decision to adopt him came quickly and naturally. Their home was ready to welcome another dog—and their hearts were open.

Just two months before adopting Dudley, the couple experienced the painful loss of Penny, their three-legged French bulldog, who passed away peacefully in her sleep. Penny had been with them for over 10 years and was a comforting presence through many life moments—including the births of all four of their children.

Chrissy shared her grief on Instagram in January, calling Penny “a little girl with a big heart” and writing, “We loved you so much.”

Bringing Dudley into the family doesn’t replace Penny—but it continues the love they’ve always had for rescue dogs.

Dudley is now settling into his new home alongside a lively crew that includes the couple’s four children—Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren—as well as their other pets: dogs Pearl and Petey, and a bearded dragon named Sebastian.

In the video shared by Kismet, the family’s pet wellness brand, Dudley is seen exploring the house, playing with the kids, and receiving plenty of belly rubs. The caption read: “Say hello to our newest rescue, Dudley! We are in love.”

Fans were quick to send their love and support in the comments, with many praising the couple for choosing to adopt.

Dudley’s adoption highlights the life-saving importance of animal rescue. Many pets displaced by natural disasters like wildfires end up in overcrowded shelters with limited resources. Organizations like Wags & Walks work tirelessly to give them a second chance—but they rely on adopters to make that possible.

Brog described Dudley as a “miracle dog” and said that his story shows how meaningful adoption can be—not just for the animal, but for the family that welcomes them in.

Chrissy and John’s decision to adopt Dudley is more than just a celebrity headline—it’s a reminder of how love and compassion can bring healing after heartbreak. They’ve turned their grief into purpose, offering a once-homeless dog a future filled with warmth, care, and companionship.

And Dudley? He’s already living the dream—snuggled up with his new family, safe and adored. You can view the post here.
