A pit bull left to suffer alone gets a second chance—and a family to call her own.
Dog Rescued From Trash After Miscarriage

In March, a young pit bull mix named Ruby lay motionless on a pile of discarded furniture and garbage. She had just suffered a miscarriage and was left behind in Indiana. Ruby’s story, shared by her rescuer with Newsweek, reveals how cruelty and compassion can exist side by side.
Alyssa Carnes, 32, first heard about Ruby from her husband. When the dog stayed in the same spot for a week, Carnes decided to step in.
“She had feces matted into her tail, dry urine on her body, and scars from past cesarean sections,” Carnes said. “She had clearly been used for breeding and then tossed away when she was no longer useful.”
Ruby Begins Her Road to Recovery

Carnes took Ruby home. She cleaned her, fed her, and gave her what she’d never known—love. Ruby responded with gratitude and trust. She started to heal, both inside and out.
“She’s thriving now,” Carnes told Newsweek. “She’s finally living the life she always deserved.”
A vet later spayed Ruby, ensuring she would never be forced to breed again.

The clip struck a nerve. Viewers watched it more than 268,000 times and left over 44,000 likes. Many praised Ruby’s resilience and Carnes’ compassion.
End Backyard Breeding—Give Dogs Like Ruby a Chance

Ruby’s story touched hearts, but her rescuer wants it to inspire action too.
“We have to stop backyard breeding,” Carnes said. “So many dogs like Ruby never get a second chance.”
Ruby’s journey shows what happens when someone chooses to care. She isn’t just surviving—she’s thriving, living proof of what love can do.
