The scene, shared widely on social media, tugged at hearts across the country as animal lovers rallied to help the fragile pups.
Abandoned But Not Forgotten
The puppies, estimated to be only days old, were found in a large plastic tub with a handwritten note saying “can’t afford, sorry” attached. Because of how young and vulnerable they were — still needing round-the-clock warmth and care — shelter staff described the situation as “heartbreaking and incredibly urgent.”
Right away, SMRAS worked with three rescue organizations — Love and Puppy Paws, Orphaned Annies, and Foster2Forever — to ensure the pups received the immediate attention they needed, including bottle feeding and warmth. Photos posted by the shelter show the light- and dark-colored puppies with white patches nestled together, slowly gaining strength under attentive care.

According to experts such as the American Kennel Club, puppies are ideally adopted between 8 and 10 weeks of age, when they’re better able to develop social skills and confidence.
