In a quiet neighborhood where life moved on, a tiny puppy sat tied to the back of a trailer, all alone. Day after day, he waited—exposed to the heat and the cold, with no food, no comfort, and no sign that anyone cared. People passed by, but no one stopped. It was as if he had disappeared in plain sight.
That changed when Kris Kelly happened to notice him. The small, shivering dog was impossible to ignore, and Kris knew he couldn’t leave him there. Time was quickly running out for the forgotten puppy. Desperate to help, Kris contacted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, a rescue group known for stepping in when animals have no one else.
By chance, Hall and her longtime volunteer, Arturo Flores, were already nearby that day rescuing abandoned chickens. When they heard about the puppy, they immediately set out to find him, hoping it wasn’t too late.
A Chance Encounter
When they arrived at the trailer, the puppy was nowhere in sight. Only the rope that had held him remained. Hall refused to give up. Determined to get answers, she knocked on the door of the trailer.
“He wasn’t outside, so we decided to knock,” Hall later shared on Facebook. “We were determined to get him.”
The man who answered the door confirmed that the dog was his. When Hall asked if he would consider giving him up, the man didn’t hesitate. “Do you want him?” he asked, as if the little dog had meant nothing to him.
Within seconds, the man handed over the tiny, trembling pup. The puppy—later named Remi—was terrified but quickly pressed himself against Hall, as if he instinctively knew he was finally safe.
“I couldn’t believe how tiny he actually was,” Hall wrote. “Maybe five pounds—just this little thing.”
The Road to Recovery
Hall and Flores rushed Remi to Camino Pet Hospital for immediate care. The veterinary team diagnosed him with non-contagious mange, a painful skin condition made worse by neglect. His body was fragile, and his recovery would take time, but it was clear his spirit was still intact.
Despite all he had endured, Remi began to show signs of hope almost right away. At the clinic, his tail started to wag—a quiet, tentative sign that he was beginning to trust the people around him.
A Safe Place to Heal
Thanks to The Forgotten Dog Foundation, Remi was soon placed in a loving foster home where he could begin to heal, both physically and emotionally. His foster family welcomed him with open arms, giving him the patience and gentle care he so desperately needed.
Though the scars of his past may linger, Remi is now thriving. He is safe, loved, and surrounded by people who see his worth. Hall’s team continues to search for his perfect forever home, but for now, he is exactly where he’s meant to be.
“This baby is forever safe and getting everything he needs,” Hall shared. “And, oh my goodness, he is the sweetest.”
