For days, a black-and-white dog lay motionless on a trash-strewn patch of ground, her soft cries echoing through a quiet neighborhood. Covered in debris and hidden beneath overgrown bushes, she waited—hoping someone would finally notice.
Earlier this month, a call came into Logan’s Legacy 29, an animal rescue in California, describing just such a scene. Volunteer Arturo Flores raced to the location, his heart sinking as he spotted the dog, later named Tillie, lying exactly as the caller described—still, broken, and desperately in need of help.
“The poor baby [lay] there for days in so much pain, and nobody came,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, in an interview with The Dodo.
Flores refused to leave without her. Gently lifting the injured dog into his car, he drove her to Camino Pet Hospital, where vets confirmed the heartbreaking truth: Tillie’s pelvis was broken, leaving her unable to stand or walk.
Finally Safe—and Finally Seen
For Tillie, the pain had been unbearable. But now, she was surrounded by compassionate hands and healing hearts. The veterinary staff immediately started her on pain medication and discussed next steps, including the possibility of surgery. Despite everything, Tillie responded with quiet gratitude.
“Look how grateful she is looking into Dr. K’s face, knowing someone is finally helping her,” Hall wrote in a Facebook post.
Though she has a long road to recovery ahead, the plan is clear: strict crate rest, gentle potty breaks, and love—something Tillie had been denied for far too long.
Searching for a Foster—and a Forever Future
Tillie’s caregivers are now working to find her a medical foster home, someone who can help her heal both physically and emotionally. With her resilient spirit and affectionate nature, those who’ve met her believe it’s only a matter of time before the right person steps in.
“[She] just needs cage rest, small potty breaks outside and love,” Hall shared online.
