Suspect Identified and Charges Filed
After the video’s circulation, San Diego County Animal Services identified the driver as the dog’s owner. He admitted to authorities that he was indeed the individual in the footage. The dog had already been euthanized by veterinarians prior to the owner coming forward. Unfortuantely vets could not save the dog due to the fatal extent of its injuries. According to officials, the dog’s remains were preserved for evidence, and criminal charges are now being prepared by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

Veterinarians who treated the Doberman determined that its injuries were too severe for recovery. The decision to euthanize was a humane necessity as the animal endured irreparable trauma. Meanwhile, Animal Services Director Vaughn Maurice described the crime as “incredibly sad and disturbing,” emphasizing a collective heartbreak for the suffering endured by the canine victim. Vaughn said:
“This is an incredibly sad and disturbing case,” said Vaughn Maurice, director of County Animal Services. “While we are grateful to have identified the person responsible, our hearts break for this dog and what it endured.”
Animal Services is filing charges against the suspect with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. The charges will likely include felony animal cruelty.
