Doug the Pug, social media sensation, author, and movie star, just added “college graduate” to his already stacked resume. On May 17—just days before his 13th birthday—the beloved pup received an honorary degree from the University of New Haven in Connecticut, proving that it’s never too late (or too fluffy) to graduate with honors.

One Pug, One Paw-some Achievement

The university awarded Doug an honorary degree in “Furensic Science,” a playful nod to its renowned forensic science program founded by Dr. Henry C. Lee, who also gave the commencement address that day. Decked out in a pug-sized cap and gown, Doug strutted his stuff across the stage to the cheers of students and staff.

“I was shocked and very excited! It never gets old to be part of something new with Doug. We are grateful for every moment and every fun new adventure,” the canine’s owner, Leslie Mosier, said of her pup’s recent achievement.

For Doug it is another accomplishment to add to his list of achievements, which includes a role in The Mitchells vs. The Machines on Netflix. He was also the voice of a pug named Monchi in the animated movie of the same name. He has also worked on music videos with Katy Perry and DNCE. Doug has also made his literary debut with the release of a picture book called Doug the Pug and the Kindness Crew.

From Campus Visit to Graduation Star

Doug’s path to academia began when Mosier—who works with the university on social media strategy—brought her celebrity pup along for a campus visit. It didn’t take long for Doug to win hearts. He met students, took selfies, and even got acquainted with Spot, the Boston Dynamics robot dog.

“Students were thrilled and began asking for more Doug,” Mosier said. “The university, always in tune with its student body, saw this as the perfect chance to create a fun and memorable moment.”

Inspired by his growing campus popularity, the university came up with the idea to invite Doug back for commencement and grant him a furry diploma.

Doug was in his element on graduation day—posing for photos, soaking up the spotlight, and, of course, accepting plenty of butt scratches from his adoring fans.

“There was something magical in the air at the commencement ceremony – a deep, beautiful sense of hope. Hope for the future, hope born from the pride of first-generation graduates and the hard-earned moments that brought everyone to that stage. I hope Doug can serve as a reminder that anything is possible and no dream is too big, even if it sounds a little silly or far-fetched at first,” Mosier says.

Doug’s Next Chapter: Naps and Backyard Vibes

With his degree in paw, Doug plans to frame his diploma and hang it proudly in his home office. But don’t expect him to start working cases just yet. His summer plans include long naps, backyard sunbathing in Nashville, and hanging out with his little sister, Dory.

Doug the Pug may not be solving crimes, but one thing’s for sure—he’s stealing hearts wherever he goes.
