Dog enthusiasts worldwide are in awe over a rare hybrid breed dog named Cadabomb Okami who has been sold for a staggering $5.7 million. The US bred dog has earned the title of the world’s most expensive dog and was purchased by S. Satish, a renowned dog breeder in India famous for showcasing unique breeds. The unique canine is a ‘wolfdog,’ a cross between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd and is also the first of its kind in the world. Last week Cadabomb Okami made his way across the world to his new home in Bengaluru, India.

Cadabomb Okami represents an unprecedented blend of wild and domestic canine traits. As a hybrid between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd, he embodies the strength and instincts of his wild ancestry alongside the loyalty and protective nature of a domestic guardian breed. At just eight months old, Okami already stands 30 inches tall and weighs approximately 75 kilograms (165 pounds), showcasing the impressive physical attributes inherited from both lineages.

The Man Behind the Record-Breaking Purchase

S. Sathish, 51, is a prominent figure in India’s canine community, known for his passion for rare and exotic dog breeds. As the president of the Indian Dog Breeders Association, Sathish has dedicated his life to the appreciation and promotion of unique canines. That might be an understatement considering how Satish owns over 150 different breeds, each carefully selected for their distinctive characteristics. Sathish’s acquisition of Okami aligns with his mission to introduce uncommon breeds to India and share their remarkable qualities with fellow enthusiasts. However speaking in his favor, Satish does take good care of each dog who enjoys their own individual 20 x 20 ft kennel.

Ensuring the well-being of such a rare and valuable animal requires meticulous attention. Okami resides on Sathish’s expansive seven-acre farm in Bengaluru, where he enjoys ample space to roam and exercise. A dedicated team of six caretakers attends to the needs of Sathish’s canine companions, providing round-the-clock care. Okami’s diet is as remarkable as his lineage, consisting of approximately three kilograms of raw chicken meat daily to support his substantial size and energy requirements.

From Breeding to Showcasing: Sathish’s Evolving Canine Ventures

While Sathish’s roots lie in dog breeding, he has transitioned to showcasing his extraordinary dogs at various events, captivating audiences and generating significant interest. Public appearances featuring Okami and other rare breeds have become a lucrative endeavor, with Sathish reportedly earning between ₹2.3 lakh to ₹9 lakh for appearances ranging from 30 minutes to five hours. The allure of witnessing such unique animals firsthand draws enthusiastic crowds eager for selfies and interactions, often rivaling the attention given to celebrities at major events.

The acquisition of Cadabomb Okami highlights a growing trend among affluent individuals investing substantial sums in rare and exotic dog breeds. These investments are not merely about ownership but also about the prestige and attention that accompany such unique companions. Sathish’s previous purchase of a Chow Chow resembling a Qinling panda for €3 million (approximately ₹27 crore) exemplifies this phenomenon, underscoring the cultural and social value placed on distinctive pets within certain circles.

Ethical Considerations Surrounding Exotic Pet Ownership

While the fascination with rare breeds like Cadabomb Okami is undeniable, it raises important ethical considerations. The welfare of hybrid animals, the impact on conservation efforts, and the message sent about commodifying wildlife are topics of ongoing debate. Ensuring that such animals receive appropriate care, live in environments suited to their needs, and do not contribute to the exploitation of wildlife is paramount. Responsible ownership and awareness of the broader implications are essential in navigating the complex landscape of exotic pet acquisition.

As this remarkable ‘wolfdog’ settles into his new home in Bengaluru, one hopes that he will adjust to the tropical climate in sharp contrast to where he born. Cadabomb Okami stands as a symbol of both the extraordinary possibilities and the profound responsibilities inherent in the world of rare and exotic pets.
